Nutritional and Behavioral Counseling

Questions on both nutritional and pet behaviors are very important, but often overlooked. Faulkner Animal Hospital is ready to be your partner in making sure that your dog or cat is on a healthy diet and a good citizen at home.

Nutritional Counseling

Whether your pet has special dietary needs or simply needs to shed (or gain) a few pounds, our nutritional counseling services can help you accomplish your goals and keep your pet in good health.  A healthy weight can also mean less chronic diseases, such as obesity, arthritis, and diabetes, and a longer life span for your pet. We advocate for a balanced, nutritious diet to manage your pet’s weight and reduce pain from common and existing illnesses.

It is also easy for pet owners to get overwhelmed with the many types and brands of foods. We can help you weed through the vast selection based on your pet's needs and the quality of the pet food needed.

Behavioral Counseling

Behavior issues can be a sign of your pet's health. If he or she has developed a behavior that you find bothersome (or your pet isn’t quite acting like themselves), we encourage you to give us a call.

Examples of behavior that warrants an examination from a veterinarian are:

  • Anxiety, aggression, or noise/storm phobias
  • Marking, house-soiling, or house-training issues
  • Sleep disorders
  • Repetitive or over-grooming behaviors
  • Chasing tail and shadows
  • Excessive barking or meowing
  • Chewing, scratching, or property destruction
  • Unruliness

Once the underlying issue of your pet's behavior problem is found, pet behavior can change with consistency and patience. You are not alone if your pet struggles with a behavioral issue, and we want to help so that you have a happy and healthy relationship for many years to come.
